Pateley Bridge Cyclocross race two weekends ago.
(Report from Arthur Wilson.)
For a hilly place the Pateley Bridge CX race takes place on the relatively flat secondary school sports fields. The rain of recent weeks brought plenty of worms out to play on the course many awoken from their half drowning slumbers by the poetic pitter pattering of cross bike treads. The slightly reduced youth course rode well with plenty of grass showing during the races with the Ilkley quartet of Jake Thornton U8-4th, Rosa U10-4th and Zac Wilson U12-15th & Theo Hart U12-10th turning in solid performances.
For the adult races the full circuit traversed some veritable shoe sucking, energy sapping terrain, by which time the worms were in full wriggling escape mode across the course. Bikes quickly accumulating a small allotments worth of soil in a few laps, which gave a distinct advantage to those with pit crews and spare bikes, mechanical issues aplenty in the competitive field from the sand, grit, grasd, mud, worm paste hanging in clumps from rear mechs and building like grotesque stalagtites from the frame. The Ilkley finishers were.... Arthur Wilson V40-7th & Liam Rees 23rd.
Middleton, Leeds, Yorkshire Points event last weekend
(Report from Arthur Wilson.)
Really tough course for the youth section this week, their shortened route had ALL the hard bits that were in the later senior races and many had a competitive introduction to the resilience and thinking needed to decide what tactics to use when to maximise racing speed. Definitely their hardest course so far this year.
U8 Jake Thornton 4th - for the 3rd race in a row
U10 Sophie Leijessen 5th, Lucy Christensen 6th, Rosa Wilson 9th – enthusiastic group of Ilkley girls
U12 Theo Hart 14th, Harry Leijessen 21st, Zac Wilson 25th (after a mechanical saw him make a lengthy run on the final lap)
** FV40 Kelly Wilby 2nd (currently riding unattached)…..
V50 John Wood 13th, (Jason Bishop – rode but missing from results)
V40 Dave Wilby 5th, Arthur Wilson 6th (Now tied on points after 5 rounds of the series). Andrew Whiteside 10th, Liam Rees 34th
Seniors John McManus 21st, Dan Sharp 23rd.
I think the chip timing folk have had a bit of a nightmare this week, the results are a bit of a mess.
