The inaugural Monday Social Ride was the 1st of July 2013. This came about after a discussion with Loc Bui, who didn’t work Mondays, and myself. As I’d recently retired I thought “Why Not?” The first few rides it was a men's ride, but within a few months the faster riders from the womens Monday ride asked if they could join the ride.
Over the years the ride has evolved from a strong B2 pace to an inclusive ride where anyone can come along if they can ride at a C1+ pace/distance. Faster riders peg it back a bit and encourage some slower riders back to the group. The ride is a social one with no one dropped, always a café stop, and sometimes end of ride Fizz!
Average ride distance is 30 miles with the inevitable amount of climbing for the Wharfedale area, usual topping out at a minimum of 2,000 feet. The ride continues throughout the Winter months with the route and distance reflecting the weather conditions and can sometimes just be to the Cavendish Pavilion for a brew. As the weather improves the ride distance goes up with distances of up to 70 miles.
Rides starts at 9:30, with the occasional “Awayday Ride” which is well advertised as to the route and start location. Be sure to check the Rides App.
